Wake County Proclaimed Third Saturday of April as Nepal Day

Raleigh, NC – Wake County proclaimed the third Saturday of April as ‘Nepal Day’ at the Board of Commissioners meeting on May 21 in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Wake County Board of Commissioners recognized the significant contribution made by the Nepal Center of North Carolina, Inc. (NCNC) in blending and fostering cordial relationships with the local community and in protecting Nepali culture and identity. Handing over the proclamation to NCNC President Dr. Batu Sharma, Wake County Board of Commissioners Chair Jessica N. Holmes said, “NCNC strives to promote Nepalese art, literature, music, dance, and customs in North Carolina and the members of NCNC have actively involved in our local community through participation in programs such as Adopt-a-Highway, blood donation, and the International Festival.”

Addressing the Wake County Board of Commissioners at the meeting, NCNC President Dr. Sharma said, “Nepali community living in Wake County is very proud of the achievement and we strive to foster the relationship with the local community.” The Nepal Day proclamation adopted by Wake County is first of a kind proclamation adopted by the county government in the United States. The Town of Morrisville has adopted a similar proclamation in 2017.
