The Nepalese American Nurses Association (NANA) recently concluded its 11th Annual Seminar, a testament to its commitment to uniting Nepalese nurses in America and fostering professional development. The seminar, held on January 13th, 2024, at Ridgewood, NY, brought together nursing professionals, scholars, and community leaders for a day of insightful discussions, networking, and cultural celebration.
Highlights of the Annual Seminar
The 11th Annual Seminar featured a diverse program that included presentations from esteemed speakers and experts in the field of nursing. The event commenced with participant registration, survey distribution, and raffle ticket distribution led by Anupa Thapa and Ang Yankey Sherpa.
The program host, Sanita Das Pariyar, NANA Treasurer, guided attendees through social networking and snacks, setting the stage for a day of informative sessions. Dr. Sangita Pudasainee-Kapri delivered a warm welcome speech, emphasizing the significance of the seminar in advancing the goals of NANA.
The seminar covered a wide range of topics, including Next Generation NCLEX (NGN), clinical judgment, wellness, stress reduction, and advanced educational opportunities in nursing. Presentations were delivered by distinguished professionals such as Dr. Mary Wunnenberg, Dr. Anna Kimelfeld, Sunita Bhandari, and Dikki Choden, offering valuable insights into various aspects of nursing practice and education.
Guest speakers, Julia Camagong and Bina Khadka Lama, shared their perspectives on supporting NANA nurses and fostering collaboration with community organizations. Dr. Pudasainee-Kapri’s presentation on the accomplishments and future planning of NANA outlined initiatives such as forming subcommittees for mentorship, supporting child health in Nepal, and providing educational scholarship and research opportunities.
The seminar concluded with a certificate distribution and recognition ceremony led by Dr. Pudasainee-Kapri and Nima Sherpa. The event ended on a high note with a closing speech by Nima Sherpa, followed by the announcement of raffle winners by Sunita Bhandari.

NANA Introduction and Yearly Activities
Founded in 2012, NANA is a non-profit organization dedicated to uniting Nepalese nurses in the United States. Throughout the year 2023, under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Sangita Pudasainee-Kapri, NANA engaged in various activities aimed at cultural celebration, community engagement, and professional development.
NANA actively participated in events such as the Nepal Day Parade, Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage (AAPI) Second Annual program in New York, and Teej celebration, showcasing the rich Nepalese culture.
The organization collaborated with prominent institutions like the Pediatric Nurses Association of Nepal (PNAN), Nepalese Nurses Council (NNC), and others, amplifying its impact beyond the nursing community. NANA’s commitment to community service was evident through charitable contributions, including a significant donation to support the establishment of children’s hospitals in Nepal.
